Solar-light Project for Secondary Schools

One of the factors affecting secondary school students is not having enough time for personal study.

Students are required to help their parents with household chores after school and therefore the only real time they have to study is night time. Only 40% of Tanzanians have access to electricity and most of these live in urban areas. For our two rural secondary schools in Mtwara and Lindi, having access to electricity at night is extremely important.

In 2013, Wentworth Africa Foundation installed solar panels to light up Msimbati Secondary School and Mnolela Secondary School. We believe this project will give the 300+ students an opportunity to study whenever they can and thus increase their chances of continuing with higher education.
